Default Barrel floating and bedding?

I am a lefty shopping for a new hunting rifle. The Ruger Hawkeye seems to have as many lefty caliber options as anyone. Is the ruger barrel floated or bedded and how important is that in a hunting rifle?

I'm not sure...though since you specify "hunting rifle," I'll say I wouldn't worry about it. And if they have neither features, it wouldn't be hard to do if you really wanted to.

What about the action on the Ruger Hawkeye, do they have a standard action or a long and short version? Any other opinions on this rifle would be appreciated.

..........I don't understand what you are trying to say here....A barrel is either floated or has a pressure point(s)....one or the other. How could it have "neither features"??

The Hawkeye has long and short actions depending on the cartridge it's chambered for.

The barrel on the Hawkeye is NOT factory floated. Ruger uses pressure points. The action is not bedded from the factory either. I'm looking at buying a Hawkeye myself and those will be the first alterations I make to it.
Very trim rifles. Fits me very well and points like a dream. Built like a tank.

I have never found that bedding the action of a bolt rifle is a bad idea.

Very true....if done correctly. The recoil lug area is of particular importance.

Neither--referring to both a float and a bed. You can dab the lug and still have a floated bbl.
