Gun lock on H&R Ultra Slug Hunter?
I have an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter Deluxe, and it comes with a gun lock that can only be used if the gun is broken open. It is designed so that the gun cannot be fired with the hammer (put a shell in, close the gun, pull the hammer 2/3 of the way back and releasing the hammer may fire the gun, even with a trigger lock on it). Does anyone have any suggestions for another type of lock that might work on this gun, preferably one that I can use and still close the gun? I'm thinking a small lock that blocks the hammer woudl do the same thing, but I don't know if that might have some adverse effect on the hammer, or if a lock like that is even made.

If your H&R will fire without pulling the trigger by pulling the hammer partway back and releasing it, then the transfer bar mechanism is malfunctioning and should be returned to H&R for repair. The transfer bar should drop out of the way as the hammer drops if the trigger is not fully depressed, preventing the hammer from striking the firing pin.
Is there a reason the supplied lock won't be adequate. If the action is held open, there is no chance the gun could be fired. I, personally, don't use gun locks. I have a bad tendency to lose small keys, so I'd leave the keys in the locks, defeating the purpose. Then there's the issue of the value of a disabled gun should you ever need one it in a hurry. But I have seen hammer locks in gun stores for T/C Encores and Contenders. Don't know if they would work for your H&R, but they do exist. Mike |
Well the reason I am asking is I got a new gun case for this gun for Xmas, but it doesnt fit with the supplied lock on it because the gun is broke open. I've never actually tried to fire the gun by pulling the hammer half way back, I just assumed that that was the logic behind the type of lock that the gun comes with. I have children, and take precautions (don't keep the ammo in the same place, keep the guns out of their reach for the most part, etc.), but I'd like as much security as I can get. I dont use this gun for personal or home defense, so I am not all that concerned with having it readily available. If it gets down to pulling the slug gun out, I am in trouble! Or someone else is.....

Trigger lock
They make a trigger lock that fits around the trigger and inside the trigger guard. I think I have some if you can't find one locally just let me know. [email protected]
FYI Note: I suggest if you are keeping it locked DON"T LOAD IT EITHER! |
