What's the value of a Savage .243?
So I was just wondering what the used value of a Savage in .243 would be? It's the package they sell at Wal Mart that has the Savage .243 with the accu trigger and then a cheap Simmons scope that comes on it. New they are close to $400 + tax at Wal Mart. If used what would be a good price for one? Also what would be a great price for one? Not many seem to be for sale in this area for me to compare them to.

For a .243, a lot depends on the round count. If it's been shot heavily the barrel may be on the way out. If it's almost new...well...the price will be almost new if it's not visibly worn.
I have no idea what the typical mark-down is on a previously sold but otherwise new gun, my impression has been not a whole lot of savings to be had there. |
The one I was wondering about was about 14 months old. The guy said it only had a box of shells through it however, I suspect it had a bit more than that. I'm guessing a couple of boxes.
What the story was is a friend was trying to sell one a couple weeks back as he needed money. He turned down what I offered and from what I gathered online people thought what I offered was low while I thought it was fair. So it got me to wondering what it's actually worth. |

Have you looked to see what they are going for on various gun auction sites? |
Yes but it seems like they either are really expensive and don't have any bids or they are older non accu trigger models or something not even close to the same. So it's been hard to get a fair price to compare to.

I can tell you that when I was looking all over for a used Remington 700 short action, I determined that unless I got lucky at a pawn shop or a garage sale I might as well save myself some risk and hassle and buy a new one. Used prices were VERY close to new ones, close enough that the FFL fee to have one shipped made it a break-even proposition.
You may chop $100 off what it cost new, but that's about it. |
