I have two 700's in .30-06 (my favorite caliber).

I think that you'll be well served with any 700. I have an ADL in .243 that is the best shooting gun in my cabinet -- like the SPS version with an matte blue finish and synthetic stock.

If money is an issue, I'd consider an SPS and a Bushnell 4200 scope (you can get them new on E-Bay all day long for $220 or so..). Get the trigger adjusted down to 3#, and you'll have a great shooting rifle that will last a lifetime.

Yeah, I had my trigger lightened to 3.5# and it's a tack driver. Mine is a .270 with a 3-9x40 Swift scope.
