What's the best way to refinish my stock???
 

I have a late 1980's Remington model 700 BDL 223 Rem. My parents bought it for me for my 14th birthday. It has the really shinny gloss finish. I want to make it look like Remington's 700 CDL and Mountain Rifle with the satin finish. What's the best way to refinish it?

One way my be better?
 

Trade it with someone that wants the older classic poly-coat version for the CDL version you like is the easiest way. Or just buy a CDL stock and keep your older one in the safe or sell it?

The poly-coat has to be stripped first by useing a good varnish stripper material. These are not an easy job, by no means, that is why I suggest the above first :(

I have a 700BDL stock that was a .222. I could make a deal on it if you mess up your current stock. Its in "ok" shape.

Not nearly that big a deal. If its cut checkering you will even be able to maintain the nice sharp points. If its pressed in, basically it suct to begin with and you won't make it worse.

Follow directions on good aerosol stripper and use a toothbrush on the checkering. Rinse and continue until the original finish is completely removed. Get a small bottle of Linspeed from Midway and follow specific online directions for use. You will end up with a very similar satin finish that is beautiful and easy to make repairs if it should get scratched.
