Smooth vs rifled barrel for slugs

I have a smooth barrel that I shoot slugs out of for my 870 and can put a nice group in paper plates at around 50-75 yds w/out a scope. I have been told that a rifled barrel with a scope will shoot twice as long and accurate. My question is what is a long and safe shot with that set-up?thanks-

I would definatley look at getting a rifled barrel for your gun,you will extend you effective range.I shoot a 20 ga slug gun with the rifled barrel and scope and wouldn't be scared to shoot at a deer out to 125yds.

Put a rifled slug barrel on that beast with a scope and it's a killing MACHINE out to 100-125 yards! Load it with Ligthfield slugs and you will smile at the results you get...I've got 2 setups like that for my boys. 1 word describes them....DEADLY!

Rifled is certainly better than smooth bore, but a slugger is still a slugger IMO.

I'm gonna pickup a savage botl in 20ga in hopes of getting a slugger to shoot sub 4 or 5" groups at 100yds...

you may have good results without the slug barrel and just a smooth bore but past 75 your accuracy will probably die. So if your shooting very far i would say get the slug barrel.
