What rifle for me??
 

I already had 1 year experience with deer and now I want to get a 30-06.

should I get a 700 or 770.
Is stainless barrel better than blued. What is the difference. Sorry for the nooby questions but I am still beginner on this stuff...

Out of those two I'd get a 700. I'd run away from the 770. It's just a cheap rifle. By cheap I don't mean price I mean quality. If you are going to get a rifle get a good one that will last you a life time. The 700 is much much better. At the same time there are other rifles out there I'd get over the 700. The Savage being one of them. I'd look at both the Savage and the Marlin XL7. Both of those I'd pick over the Remington 700.

I like stainless just as it seems to hold up better but at the same time it's usually on more expensive rifles and I know quite a few people that don't like the look of it nor do they like how bright and shiny it can be when hunting.

700, no question. If you buy the 770, send it to me and I will gladly throw it off a cliff.

The 770 is a joke. Look at the Marlin XL7 if you want a good rifle for less than the 770.

I would go for the 700, stainless.

There are a lot of good rifles out there but the 770 isn't one of them. It's hard to believe that the same company could put thier name on both rifles. I really like the Remington 700BDL/CDL, it's an awesome gun. I bought a new 700BDL in 30-06 back in 1976 and it still works and looks like new. In all fairness I did refinish the stock this past summer, it didn't need to be done but I just didn't care for the plastic dipped look that Remington used to put on these guns. If given a choice I'd get the stainless steel model, but thats just me.

A 770 is a slightly updated 710 which wasn't a very good rifle. They shoot pretty good, but reliability is iffy. The Marlin XL7 on the other hand is a great rifle in the same price range. Or if you want to spend significantly more, get the Remington 700 and don't look back, you will not be disappointed or be left wanting for more. As for stainless or blued, you will pay more for stainless but it requires a bit less care and stays looking good for longer. At least that is my experience with it.

Get the 700 and forget about the 770.

I shot a doe yesterday w/ my STAINLESS 700, layed it down on the bloody deer that was lying in a swampy muck and it was raining too. by the time I got done taking pictures, filling out the tag, field dressing and dragging the deer 300yds to my truck, my beautiful rifle was covered in blood, mud,& guts and i still havent cleaned it , mabye i will, maybe i wont, might just wait till the seasons over, Im kinda busy now. ill tell you one thing, i would never leave blood on a blued gun or hunt in the rain w/ a walnut stock. As far as the 770 goes, its certainly no 700 but im pretty sure a bullet that it fires will kill a deer.
