Which do yall think would be best for thick east Texas hard woods and weeds

i shoot both, and both r great, but the 35

I agree, the 35 Rem is hard to beat as a brush gun.

I choose the .35 Rem.

I would go with the 30-30 due to cheap and available ammo. I'm not much for niche cartridges, and I've seen new marlin 30-30's for $300.

I have to choose the 30-30. The two cartridges are pretty close to each other in performance, but using leverevolution ammo you can squeak an extra 50 yards from the 30-30. I'm sure that it's different in parts of the country where the 35 is popular, but here in Florida you can't find ammo easily, 30-30's are everywhere.

What are you going to be hunting? Both are a great beater brush gun. If all you are hunting are deer, then the 30-30 won't let you down and ammo is easy to come by. If you are going after anything larger then deer then stepping up to the 35 Remington gives you an extra bit of insurance.

I'm with the majority. The 35 is ballistically superior to the 30-30.

I've never shot a deer with a 30-30. I did shoot one with my 35 Rem. I shot it in the shoulder. It was a bang flop. It never took another step.

I think for deer hunting it probably doesn't matter. A little heavier game say black bear and/or wild boar, I'd go with the 35 Rem.

If those were the only two choices I would spend my money on the 30-30. The trajectory is better and the heavier bullet for the 35 Rem isn't going to move brush any better than the 30-30.

The idea of a brush gun isn't just the idea of being able to shoot though brush though, most of us know that is BS. But, there is the gun that is light, easy to carry and doesn't have bolts and scopes attached to it to catch brush on. That is why I always end up back to my leverguns. Well balanced, easy to carry and I can pack it through the brush and not have "extras" attached to my gun when I come out of it.

i agree, aint no such thing as shootin through the trees and stuff...but a heavier bullet will stay more on course than a lighter bullet...goin through grass and leafy materials...and the lever action /open sighted is a plus when in the thicket, not that a 30-06 couldnt be opensighted, or even lever action? i dunno..still with the 35 rem...mine is a sears and roebuck<<whatever i aint goin to look how its spelled..maf maf maf lol :barmy:

It's not that it's a myth it's just that most people have the concept of what a "Brush Gun" is completely wrong. A "Brush Gun" is a short easily manuverable rifle that is more handy to use in thick brush. The term was coined to descibe the gun itself. It was never intended to mean a bullet that would be less likely to be deflected by brush. Which is sadly what most people think it means these days.

Oh, and I'd take the 30-30. Waaay more bullet options out there and it kills just as well in my experience.

I owned both 30/30 & .35 they both killed deer equally,put the bullet where your suppose to ...dead deer!

I own both as well and still prefer the 336 in .35rem. It is one of my favorite calibers and topped with a peep site it is very accurate to 200yards, handles great and really puts the smack on critters. I find there is less meat damage with the old .35 over the 30-30, probably due to the slower velocity. both are a great choice, I just prefer the .35.

i have had both....still have the 35 and not the 30-30....for me i like the 35 much much better...including mine my family has 3 and only one 30-30 out of us all.....i shoot reloads through mine and they are the leverations in 200 gr...they are an awsome load...the 30-30 is easier to find shells for but how often do you really use it? and i can find shells for mine if needed pretty easily.....the balistics are close to each other with comparable loads..but i like the smack of the heavy biger caliber personaly out of the 2havent shot a whitetail yet that has got away yet

Either will do just fine! Leverevolution if you need it as well.

If the shot placement is done right either the 30/30 or the 35 Rem will do the job your asking for. Trust me the deer won't be able to tell the difference.

I personally use a Marlin 1894 in 41mag for my Indiana and Florida brush gun and have no regrets at all.

I would go with the 30-30, it is so much easier to find ammo. and the many different combos available for the 30-30 make it such a usefull gun.

30-30 definetely has the edge on ammo availability and cost - at least in my part of the country. The going rate for a box of 30-30 federal 150's or 170's is 12.97 and can be found most anywhere. The rate for a box of 35 Remington is around 28 dollars and only select places typically have them.
