Shortening a Remington 11-87 barrel

I was looking at getting an 11-87 12 ga, I do not like the real long 26" barrel it comes with. Would I be able to take it to a gunsmith and cut it down to 22" and then re-thread the barrel for the chokes?

Humm...I don't see why not, but it's not gonna be cheap :D

It would be cheaper to buy a new barrel.

Yes it can be done but not real sure why you would want to? Trade the 26inch barrel in for a shorter one would be your best bet. I have a 26in 11/87 and it swings and handles very well. You will suffer with accuracy and down range patterning as well with the shorter barrel unless you try different than standard chokea and your shot size will have to be larger to do the same thing a longer barrel and smaller size shot can do. Just my 2 cents:pcwhack:

Peruse thru any of the big name shooting supply outfit catalog and you will find you can buy barrels probably cheaper than you can have work done on one.

Thanks for the replies , I think I may go with a turkey one , I wanted 22" but I'll settle for a 23".
