I like the 25-06 for the conditions your talking about...:D

I would choose the 25-06 as it shoots flat has little recoil and has plenty of power for any deer..I have never owned a 30-06 and it is very unlikely that I ever will.I believe it to be the most overrated cartridge in history.

For a strictly deer gun, I also would go with the 25-06. Now I still love my 30-06 but for what your hunting the 25-06 is a flatter shooting rnd and lighter recoil. I would buy one but my 257 Roberts does all that I need it to do.

I have both and I never use the 30-06 anymore . Then on the otherhand I have other guns I prefer to use more than the 25-06 .

JUST for the conditions you mentioned I would choose the .25/06. If I had to choose between the two for all types of different hunting situations I would choose the .30/06 hands down. ;)

RE: Which One?

I' d go with the .30-06 over the .25-06.

Why? Handloads make my .30-06 a very accurate gun (sub 1/2 MOA at 100 yards)
Both chamberings I can tolerate without recoil problems(no advantage to either)
.30-06 has the advantage of heavier bullet weights available
.30-06 has more bullet selections available
.25-06 ammo is not universally available(at least in my neck of the woods)
There are grizzlies and big black bears where I hunt deer; .25-06 is undergunned in these circumstances, the .30-06 less so.
.30-06 less likely to be affected by wind drift
While .25-06 may be generally flatter shooting, I don' t consider this to be a compelling reason to go with it.
I know where my .30-06 shoots throughout the 350 yard window of opportunity.
