Those are both fine guns for the money and both calibers will give great service. If you can shoot one, do so. Or at least try to heft them and see if one of them feels right.
That said, I'm biased to the Stevens as its really a Savage 110 with a different name. They've been selling for fifty years and have a reputation of being accurate all out of proportion to their cost.
Type in Savage 110 or Stevens 200 in an internet search and you'll find some good articles. I'm sure you can do it with the Marlin, too.

thanks guys im going to be going to the local gun shop that i buy all my guns from. He is fair and will tell you what he thinks and hes been doing this forever. My price range is between $250 and $300. Im going to see if he has any used stevens or marlin rifles and def. will check out the feel and see if one is better then the other.
