im thinking of buying a nice light 20ga for bird hunting sometime over the summer..not any time soon..im saving for a bow right now...im thinking an ithica featherweight fits the bill....not a new one..an older used one...i dont mind buying used guns..i never have a problem with the dealer i buy from and if i ever would it will be cleared up..hes a good friend of ours and been in the business for a long long time....anyone have any problems with the gun?? im just wondering...im not real sure yet..heck i really dont need one...but im working now..why not enjoy some of the cash i make? a bow and a gun for myself sound appropriate before i save for my truck...i cant stand lugging my heavy mossberg 500 with a 28 inch barrel in after grouse and i have no dog so i am really in there.....anyone have any comments about an ithica? i really dont want to spend a ton...i think i can get an ithica for 200 something....thats in pretty good shape...im really need to save for a truck in 4 months when i get my liscense but working without buying any new toys will make me unhappy lol.....if i didnt have to save for a truck id go for a brand new 1100.....but the truck is kind of important.....anyone? im not shopping yet and not really sure if i will buy one but i may and the boards are slow so i decided to post now.......thanx

You should not be dissapointed with an Ithaca M37 20ga. Around here we can find them in gun stores for $150.00---$350.00 depending on gauge. The 12 gauge is the easisest to find at my local shop, 20 gauge next and 16 gauge very rare. I started shotgun hunting with a depression era Ihtaca M37 20ga, I still use it on our annually quail hunt. Nice light gun, mild recoil, cycles smooth I can carry it for hours afield and not even notice it, still have not installed a recoil pad; it was never needed. Also I like the bottom eject, no reason just a personnal thing. Only two caveats: full choke no tubes, I can' t say it has cost me bird, but I could not use it for deer slugs. BE VERY CAREFULL with OLDER M37 if you LEAVE YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER AND PUMP THE ACTION IT WILL FIRE WHEN YOU CLOSE THE ACTION. Not a problem if you are aware about it, but probably not a good/wise choice for beginners.

yeah, I had one problem with mine. I sold it:([:' (][X(] worst mistake i ever made. you will be very happy. especially if you get a newer one that takes 3"

I have owned many guns and my Ithica Model 37 12 ga pump is my favorite of all my guns. Bought it for $200 from a pawn shop. Best $200 I ever spent. I have had it for about 10 years.

thanx guys.....i thought they were pretty good guns....i really dont need a 3 inch mag but would be nice to have for that just incase type thing....tree rats need them in a 20ga once in a while....them big ole fox squirrels take a beating and keep running sometimes....i think it will be a nice gun for my collection....i was about to drop the money on one last summer but i decided a good deer scope instead of a cheapo was in order....but now im actually working....ill let you know if i get one....i kinda want one with choke tubes..if i cant find one i know a gun smith that can do it....even if it takes value from the gun i wont mind...well worth it being i will keep it for a long long while anyway....a full choke in the thick brush would hinder me or blow up the birds....but man....a way to teach a kid how to hit clays is with a full choke i think....thats all my single 20ga has and i learned on it and i can hang with some pretty good clay busters....my friend shot skeet all his life..i went with him my first time...i think he got a 21 and i got a 19 or something near there out of 25...one of mine got away becuase i short pumped on the second shot...i think im going to get one before fall...maybe after the truck is bought i can save a check and buy one..i will have a month before i need the gun after i buy the truck....for as much as people hate work i love it......all the things i can FINALLY buy...i was never one of them kids to hit up mom and dad for things i wanted...i saved grass cutting money ect and bought what i wanted the most...sure dad bought me all my guns but one...but i didnt ask for any...they were all gifts...i like having a job.....another nice 50hr check coming next week....a bow will be mine very soon! i cant wait! thanx guys...

Ithaca Model 37' s are a excellent pump gun.I like the bottom ejection.I wish they had the double action bars like the Remington 870 has.If you can find a used one in good condition,I' m sure you' ll be happy with it.

I borrowed my father-in-law' s model 37 12 guage so I could take my wife goose hunting a few years ago. It was old, beat up, a bit rusty but I cleaned her up and my wife used it and got a goose with it on her first outing. It is such a fine gun that I really hated the fact that I had to give it back to my father-in-law after the season was over.;)
