New Gun, but WHAT?!

I am getting a new gun for Christmas, 12gauge to be specific. Here is my dilemma, I hunt pheasant, waterfowl, turkey, and shoot trap. I am looking for a gun around $1,000. What should I get? I was thinking an O/U. I want something that can reach those geese, but not blow a pheasant into smithereens.

Throw some ideas at me so I can start researching.

Thanks all!

Stay away from a rifled slug gun and I'm sure you can kill those pheasants and geese. :D

If you learn to use the correct choke, shot size and let the game get 30-40 yards away before the shot then you won't ruin much meat...

Any good autoloader or pump will do what you want...I have a Browning B-80 that I use for turkey, deer, quail, ducks, geese, doves or even rabbits or squirrels...

A grand will get you a very good autoloader or a so so over and under...Take your time, shopping is fun...

Cannot go wrong with a Remington 870 Wingmaster. Also, the new 887 looks interesting.

As mentioned use the correct choke in any shotgun and you'll be fine.

Where is "smitherreens" ?

Seeing as how you want it for hunting fowl of one type or another and a fast second shot could be an asset, I'd really look at a good semi auto like a beretta or Remington 1187 or an over/under. I own both. Semiautos are nice because you can fire more than twice and over/unders are gonna be lighter. Pick your poisen.

Well the 887 came in today and after talking with my dealer I went with the Stoeger M2000 for the same price, thought I would give a auto a try and if I dont like it Iam not out much.......Stoeger fit me better with the 28" brl....

The 887 will sell for him no problem he said.
