Default Having problems removing stock on 870...help

I am taking the stock off to refinish it but I cant get the screws out of the end. I cant see the screws due to the pad which isnt helping at all either.

I am using a philips but I think its just stripping the screws. I have a smaller size and applying alot of pressure. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

once you get the recoil pad off it should be fairly easy. try a couple drops of break free

Default 870 pad

If the screw is stripped in the wood, Try pulling the pad back away from the stock while turning the screw CC. If the Screw head is stripped try using a #2 or # 3 phillips driver or a flat driver that will fit in the phillips stripped head. Hope this helps?
