I've never had a problem with my dad's 25. Started shooting when i was 13. I've killed deer as far as 398yds and as close as 10ft. All were dead with a well placed shot. We started out using 120gr. Pos. expanding Winchester loads that worked great. Now shooting 115gr Ballistic silver tips. My uncle who i've always hunted with could tell by the sound of the gun when i shot it. We love our 25/06 and will never go without it.

The 25 06 is an excellent all around cartridge that will flatten deer and black bear with authority. A friend also uses it very effectively for deer, elk and moose, and 1 is all that it takes to put meat on the table. I have never lost a deer with one, and they are usually on the ground before you blink after firing the shot. I have gone out on gopher shoots, and fired 200+ rounds in a day with it, and it is not a unpleasant experience at all. Very unpleasant for the gophers and the yotes, though. "IF" there was a one rifle per customer law, the 25 06 would be very high on my list for a selection, if dangerous game wasn't in the equation.

If you reload, then I would say go for it. If are just looking for something different and shoot a lot, but don't reload then I would say to look for something else a bit more common. It is still based on an 30.06 case necked down to 25 caliber so it is still going to have a noticeable amount of recoil over what a shorter action round does. It is a good in between round that will do a bit of everything and a lot of people have been known to shoot it well.

The cartridge has too much recoil to be a day in day out varminter. And if you are looking for something for long range shooting then the 6.5 mm cartridge is a better choice over the 25 caliber.

I get flamed a good bit because I am not a quarter bore fan. And I have owned several of them. Including the 257 Wby. For me it just never had the proper mix of bullet, BC, velocity, and energy. There are way too many other choices out there, that are better choices.

Also the ammo prices are ridiculous. Especially when you can buy 270 cartridges for less money. And the 25-06 is definitely no 270.





I have a 300 mag a 270 a .22 a 45-70 a .50 cal blackpowder.
And as far a you say it to big for the little stuff and to small for the big stuff is retarded. Its shot placement. I just want a caliber close to my 270 so it didnt get shot so much. And another thing all bullets are expensive these day and not much diff. between the 270 and 25-06 price. Its the WEATHERBY rounds and stuff like that that are ridiculous...

Dang Tom , You're rough on my quarter bores ......LOL.I respect your opinion on them.Just having a little fun with you.Personally I really like the round.First time I ever had any dealings with one was when I traded for a Browning A-Bolt in 25-06.As said above I was sending 120 grain Winchester PXP down the pipe.I don't think they should be the best projectile,But those things were awesome seem more like a varmint round out of the five deer I shot I only had one pass through.All of the deer dropped on the spot.Did not like the Browning for the simple reason that I am a trigger freak.traded it off.Never lost my fondness for the round.Wound up with a Sako AV from a member here it likes a 117 grain Hornady inter-bond with a max load of RL 22 and will shoot min. of gnat on a fly's ass .The quarter bores have a rather small but loyal following like some of the other "different " rounds.Some people are like me and like the different stuff (10mm,.41 mag,.45-120,etc) sorry to be so long winded but I think it has it's place like just about any other round.I do know it is pure poison on deer size critters.Plus I like the "What caliber is that thing factor".Shoots flat and shoots long and kills deer.I like it.Oh BTW I don't think you are retarded either.............LOL
