Went to buy a used 22...
 

My dad called and said he had a 22 from a woman who gave it to him to sale. He asked if I wanted to buy it for $60 and I said sure, but I'd like to shoot it first.

So I went up today with the money and some shells I had laying around here at the house. I loaded it and went to fire and it wouldn't go off. I put another in just in case it was the shell and nothing again. Dad said, that's not good, thank goodness you tried it first and I said yeah and didn't buy it.

My step mom ended up lending me her 22 and dad is lending me a 20 guage for my son for squirrel hunting next week end. So, dad says it could be the firing pin. Is that an easy, inexpensive fix? Could it really be the firing pin? It just clicked when I pulled the trigger. It's an older gun but in nice condition stock wise with open sites... concidering it doesn't fire. I'd still like to get it and maybe have it looked at and fixed.

Do any of you think it'd be worth fixing going by my description of the problem? I called dad and asked him to ask her If she'd accept $20 since the gun doesn't fire and needs work. I'll know more on Sunday if she accepts the offer. I'm just hoping it won't cost more than it's worth to fix it. He said it's an older 22.

What do I know about guns anyways... hoping you guys could help me out with any advice. :cool:

Sorry! I should have asked Dad before I posted. He said it's a Ranger. That's all it says...

Should have a model number on it somewhere.... That should tell who actually manufactured the gun. Rangers were made by Savage, Stevens, H&R, Winchester and Marlin, although there was a Ranger Arms, Inc. manufacturing firm in Gainsville, TX. until early 1970's, producing good quality bolt action rifles in various calibers. I do not believe this is what you have, from your description....I feel you probably have the former. If you have a good gunsmith in your area, I'd seek his advice........

Dad can't seem to find the serial #. Just the above info.

If it is made by Ruger it should be a quality firearm. If it is the same one as the one in this link then I would buy it and try and get it fixed if it is in descent shape.

Just wanted to update and say that I didn't get the 22. The sellar is going to give it to her son. Oh well.
