Anyone Know Of A Good Pistol Scope ?
 

Ditching the shotgun and hunting with this gun this year,



Ruger Super Redhawk .44 mag, but I want to scope it and hunt, mainly whitetail deer. No really long distances. 15-60 yards ? I'm hunting on a hill so I'm shooting down to the base of it.

Only thing I've found so far is this,

Hi,
Im new to this forum, but thought I'd chime in.
I also shoot a 44 SRH, and also a 480 SRH.
I would like to add my 2c and say I prefer something like a 4x scope.
I am partial to 28-33mm for my type of hunting.
I have a fixed 4x B.and Lomb, on my 44 and a Burris variable on my
480, usually set to 3-4.
I had two 2x20mms on these at first, one Simmons and the other Leupold.
They worked great for shooting paper targets out in the field, but
I typically hunt in dark densley wooded hollows and ravines along a river.
I found that both of these 2x scopes were difficult to see through in
dark conditions such as these, especially half hour before and after
legal light, as my area allows.
I had a doe walk approx. 25yds away from me once right at legal light, and just couldnt find her good enough in the scope to shoot.
Maybe its just my eyes, but the two scopes I now have(B&L,Burris), are WAY better for MY type of hunting.
I also have a few stands, that have 100yd shots over cutovers. The 4x scopes really help out there too.
If you could, I would DEFINATELY look through a few, before you settle on one style.

44mags can be a little hard on a scope as well as the screws.been through 3 different scopes on my smithy 629 classic. a red dot- a simmons variable and then a fixed 4x leuplod. the one i have now is the new leupold vx3 2.5x8x32. its the best one ive used. its great in low light and field of view is nice. its pricey but well worth it. make sure you get good rings and bases. if you have the time and find the best accurate ammo for your gun the iron sights will work fine. new people to hunting with a handgun soon realize its a different animal from long guns. you need to really get your system down through lots of practice and using a solid rest is your best friend. shooting off hand at game with a handgun is a whole different thing.

I have a leupold EER(extended eye relief) 4x on my srh and just love it.They are a little pricey but well worth it.

I have a Millet Red Dot scope with no power on my Ruger SuperRedhawk 44mag. and really like it. Fast to get on target and accurate enough to take game at 100yds. Use it with both eye open easy to get on target. Lighter then a scope and will handle the recoil of my handload 320gr. hardcast bullets traveling 1330fps.

I have a Pentax 1.5-4 on my Ruger SRH .44 Rem. Mag., and it works well for me. Take a look at Burris hand gun scopes. Good luck.

I have the same set up as liquidorange on my S&W .41 mag classic hunter.Best set up I have had on that revolver.I would recomend it to anyone.JMHO

Burris, Leupold or Nikon all make good optics at a reasonable price. I put a Leupold F-XIV 4 power on my SBH Hunter and never looked back. Good scope at a good price.
