Ok yall i have a problem I have a winchester 243wssm with a bushnell 3x9x40 with a cutom paint job that i bought for my wife. She is now wantin something a little bigger but with the same amount or little more recoil i was thinking maybe a 7mm-08 or 308 eaither way I want to sell the 243wssm I need yalls help! What is a good goin price for the 243wssm it has less than 50 rounds through it and what would be a better a better round for my wife 7mm-08 or 308?

Check online sites like Gunbroker for $ comparables. As far as the other question, my wife has both a .308 and a 7mm-08. She likes them both. I'd say the 7mm-08 (due to a bit less recoi) would be a great choice.

In this case I would go with the 7mm-08 strictly because it has slightly less recoil, all other things being equal.

IMO It's hard to beat a 140gr 7mm bullet for deer hunting, and it doesn't matter if it's fired from a 7mm-08, 7x57, 280 or 7 Rem Mag.

Right on....They sure do kill deer awful dead real quick. I've been a 7mm advocate for a lot of years, and have used all you mentioned but the 7X57. I'm currently shooting a 7-08 and see no reason to change. That cartridge is one sweet thing. Does it's job well, and with very moderate recoil. The 140 bullets are just about perfect for whitetails. Excellent pick....

My son shoots a 7-08 and I love that caliber!

What's wrong with the 243 WSSM? Is she just hunting deer? If there are no SERIOUS plans in the next year or two to hunt anything bigger than deer, I'd stick with the 243 WSSM and spend the money to put some really nice glass on it (unless the Bushnell you speak of is an Elite 3200 or better). Provided that it shoots well. On deer sized game, the 7mm-08 isn't going to make them any more dead any faster than what she already has. No matter how you figure it, you're going to likely take a hit on the price of the rifle compared to what you've got into it, especially if you trade it, custom paint and all.

So unless the thing is really inaccurate or she really needs a larger caliber for larger game, or is she really just absolutely hates the rifle, my advice would be to stick with what she has.

+1 Driftrider.

But personally, I use a 7mm-08 and love it. I think it's the absolute perfect deer sized game caliber.

For the wife, I'd say look at the 260 Remington.

Unfortunately the 243WSSM is a completely dead cartridge with no bolt rifle manufacturers chambering it any more. Only a couple of AR15 manufacturers chamber rifles in the WSSM cartridges. For this reason your rifle really isn't worth anything unless you get really lucky and find the 1 in ten thousand people that would actually buy one knowing this.

You may actually be better off selling it now and getting what you can for it before no one makes ammo for it any more and you are stuck with a useless rifle.

I tell you this as someone that works in a gun and archery shop 6 days a week and we will not take a WSSM in on trade.

And the 7mm-08 is an excellent deer cartridge with very mild recoil.
