Pleasantly suprised by Ruger
Took my dads Ruger M77 .270 out this afternoon to make sure it was still sighted in. Dads always been a "Its close enough" kinda guy, so I thought I would double check it for him. After a good barrel cleaning I fired 3 shots at 130 yards. Not only was it on....it was ON!!!
Remington 130gr. CorLokts into 1" off a makeshift rest. I'm by no means a benchrest shooter, but I was shocked at the accuracy! Haven't even tried any other loads out of it. I'm going to have a custom rifle built starting next year, and I'm starting to second guess my decision of a Rem. 700 action. Is this pretty normal to expect from a M77? |
NO. I've had 2 M77's and got rid of both of them.

I've saw some pretty awesome Rugers...

Buying a Ruger is like buying a box of chocolates, you just never know wha'cha gonna get........
I had a Ruger M77MKII growing up that shot fairly decent for a few years, then it decided it wasn't going to shoot anymore. I finally gave up on that rifle after doing alot of tweaking on it. I have a buddy with an old Tang safety M77 in 243; that thing will absolutley drive tacks. If you are going to build a rifle I'd do it on the Ruger action.......Everyone and their dog has a custom on a Remmy action. ;) |
I have an older one and got another last winter. Both are great shooters.IMO you cant go wrong with Ruger.
|
Sounds like my Ruger.

I had a 77 Ruger long tang in .270 years ago that was just simply an awesome shooter with Rem. factory ammo in 130 gr. I gave it to a good friend of mine. I hope he still has it.......

Ruger fan here. However, that said, some seem to be "shooters", some not so much. It may be a barrel issue. Since they now do in-house, I think they have gotten better more regularly.

My Ruger is an exceptional shooter but it wasn't amazing out of the box. It shot around 1.5" right out of the box. Now with floating, bedding and a trigger job it's sub 1".

I haven't shot many, but all the rugers I've shot did good. Same for the 700s. I'd keep the 700 top of the list for a custom build though.
