cleaning the .22 centerfires
 

What are you all using for patches for the .22 centerfires? Iv'e got the .22 Hornet and all I see are the .22 cal patches and the next step up seems to be for the .270's and up. The .22 patches are just a little too small and the next size up, too big. What are some suggestions?

You can buy an Outers or Hoppes 22lr kit for about 7 bucks at the sporting goods store. It should come with a 3 piece aluminum rod, a plastic jag and a bore brush with oil and solvent with patches to clean your .22. You can even get a boresnake in .22 cal. I realize that you said centerfire, but a 22 is a 22 and the only real difference that I can see is that your bolt is much easier to remove.

Not trying to be a smart guy.But try an old tee shirt and cut them untill you get the exact size you like.Thats what I do.

That's what I figured. Just cutting patches to fit. I have all the cleaning equipment for .22 caliber, just that the .22 patches go thru the centerfire bore too easily and are not tight enough to get it clean. I'll just have to say goodbye to a couple of t-shirts--thanks---

I use kleenbore .22 - .270 patches in my 243 and they seem to work decent. They are a 1 1/4 inch patch. Around $7 for 500.

i agree with swampdog, use an old shirt or an old sheet, but if you have to use cleaning patches then double up on the smaller patches but you could use a sheet and never have to buy another patch for any of your firearms during the rest of your life.

Check out Butch's Triple Twill patches. They come in various sizes, and are the best I've ever used. I've been using them in 6MM size.

This can do more damage than the dirty bore.
How about a quality one piece rod and bore guide

A small .22 bore snake is the best that I have used. The patches that can be cut up still don't do a good enough job.
