What 7mm mag ammo?
 

New to the forum, i've narrowed my choices to either the 150gr Scirocco or the 150gr Accutip, both have very similar ballistics, was hoping to get some feedback from those who you who have shot some, I will be using these on whitetails and mulies from 50 to 300 yards...

i use plain old Remington CoreLokt for whitetails... but not much farther than 200 yards. I have friends who swear by the accutips for 300 yard + shots.

Remington CoreLokt kills em' dead and is the cheapest around.

which one shoot's better in your gun?

They both group about the same, very impressive at 100 yds with bullet holes touching..

Shoot them at 250 and tell me how they shoot. If they are still the same I'd pick the easier of the 2 to get your hands on. Or buy plenty of the cheaper of the 2.

I already shot both boxes i had:confused0024:, by looking at the ballistics chart on remington's website the performance is almost identical, my concern is penetration and controlled expansion, at longer ranges the scirocco may not mushroom enough and at close range the accutip may blow up on the shoulder. Where I am hunting in west texas the shots on mulies have been as close as 30yds and the longest 300+ so whatever I take out there I want it to get the job done at both distances..

Go with whichever is easier to get. Put the bullet behind the shoulder instead of the shoulder and you should be fine.

Either one will work...I routinely shoot deer through the shoulder with Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertips...never had a problem...I would not worry about bullet failure with the 7mm RM...at least with bullets of 150+ grains which have high sectional densities...

Maybe a different answer if you were including elk or larger...

Shoot the accutips. Or Hornady SST if you can't find accutips. I am 99.9% certain that the AT and SST is the same bullet.

Teach Deer is correct about the bullets not blowing up. Don't worry one bit that the accutip isn't tough enough to punch through a deers shoulder at close range. There is no reason at all to shoot a bonded core bullet at deer sized animals unless you just like to spend extra money.
