cci 17hmr vs frozen milk jug....
There 4 milk 1/2 gallon frozen milk jugs used here. This was my first time shooting the cci .17 hmr ammo and my gun seemed to like it better than the hornady, but in hornadys defense the trigger was alot heavier when i last shot it. u could still see where the bullets whent in on 3 of the jugs right where it was split but on the 4th it penetrated threw and blew the back out. It was cloudy and wet and just finished raining when i shot these but i think the pics are good enough to get to see how they performed.
![]() ![]() ![]() ok this 4th bottle was difrent in that it blew the back out instead of the front of the jug where the bullet was hitting. ![]() ok the bottom left target and the middle target are what i shot. this was someones target left at the range and the middle and bottom left where not even hit. the bottom left was 5 shot group and the middle was i forget how many. ![]() |
RE: cci 17hmr vs frozen milk jug....
Redneck gun rest: 1 anti freeze jug feeled with water, 1 of wifes sweaters. works pretty well, i put the camera in the case and used it to help steady it in the rear some. One day i will break down and purchase a good gun rest from a shooting store or cabelas. Also u can see i dont have much scope on the gun 3-9x32. Im glad i was the only one at the range, im sure i looked a bit odd.

Looking good Treedog, your groups that is. Can' t say much for your rest LOL. How far were you shooting?Last year I bought a (15.5" ) Uncle Bud' s" Bulls bag" from Natchez Shooters supply. They have different sizes. The field bag is 9.5" long and the bench bag is 15.5" .It' s great for using at the range. All you do is add sand to it.The only downfall is it' s heavy when filled with the sand.

RE: cci 17hmr vs frozen milk jug....
I was only shooting at 25 in the pictures. The scope i have is cheap and fogged up a little lol. You can see in the pictures that its cloudy and the 32mm was fine at 25 but at the 50 it was a bit hard to see. Ill move up to 100 when i order the bkl mount and a 6-18x40 scope. Both 5 shot groups where dime size but at the range they should be lol. If u get the chance try the cci, they hold together better than the hornady so if u decide to shoot something u may actualy eat they would be a better choice. I only shot 30 rounds and went home, if its clear tommarow i may try the 50 even with the lame scope but im not to confident I will shoot well with it that far. Ill look into those bags, the weight wont matter sense i can drive right up to where i shoot. im sure how it is now i could take a squirrel cleanly at 40 yards with a good rest.

Thanks Treedog, I' ll keep an eye open for CCI.I got a box of Remington' s when I bought that Savage 17.Hopefully soon I' ll get a chance to try out my Savage.Unfortunately I' ll probably put a Trashco World Class on it.It came with a used Knight Disc I picked up a few years ago.

The Rem and Hornady use the same vmax bullet. Ive never seen the Rem for sale here but i can get the cci and hornady and my gun shoots them both well. I was messing around yesterday at a shooting supply and shouldered a wood/blue savage 17hmr and it felt real nice. There ss model was only like 269$.

Treedog, That S/S Savage is probably the same one I got at BassPro.It was 229.95.Mine is the Savage FSS93R17 if I' m not mistaken.BassPro are the only one' s I' ve seen the Remington ammo at. I know awhile back they had Hornady 17 HMR.

I was close, That Savage is model 93R17FVSS. It' s bad enough getting older and then getting a case of CRS on top of it. LOL

RE: cci 17hmr vs frozen milk jug....
I just got a 17vs and my first range experience was a real bummer. I heard on other forums that the CCI ammo sometimes didn' t feed well. They were right! almost 3 out of 7 times through it hung up. I hope Remington or Hornady feeds better. As far as the rifle goes I like it so far.

RE: cci 17hmr vs frozen milk jug....
I read on rimfirecentral.com someone else had problems with the cci 17 hmr but it all 30 rounds i shot off yesterday loaded just as easy as the hornady. The same person who had problems with it loading there does not have a problem with the hornady so you should be safe there.
