Sighting in my Browning A-bolt 270
 

I am shooting Hornady's 140gr sst. I sighted in my rifle 1.5 inches high at 100 yards. When I move back to 200 yards my 3 shot group moves 4 to 5 inches to the right. I am shooting from a bench with a steady rest. If anyone can give me some pointers on what I may be doing wrong I would appreciate it.

First off was the wind blowing? A 10mph wind can blow a bullet of 3" at 200 yards.

The wind was 5-10mph. I tried to wait for little to no wind to shoot. If it was just wind. What is the best way to compensate for it. Any rule of thumbs out to 300 yards

Find a ballistic calculator online like at biggameinfo.com and check to see how your bullet will react to the wind then print it out and tape it to your stock.

I would shoot on a day with little to no wind to verify that wind is not a factor. Distance will emphasize shooter error. Assuming that you are not pulling your shots, if your gun is still shooting to the right at 200, guess what, your gun is shooting to the right. Adjust the scope.

I'm not a guy that worries about compensating for anything when shooting at deer. I never take shots longer than 125 yards or so. Just aim on the shoulder, dead center top to bottom, and squeeze.

I would first check that your scope reticle is level. Then check your hold to make sure that you aren't tilting the rifle. If you can try at 300, you should see it keep moving away from your point of aim if your reticle is twisted or your hold is slightly off.
