Need help

Hey guys, I am wanting to spoil myself with a new rifle. Mainly for deer. I want something that doesnt have much recoil but still packs a punch. I am leaning towards a 308 right now. What are your thoughts?

Any of the 308 based cartridges are great shooters, have low recoil, and will effectively kill deer for about as far as anyone should be shooting at them. You really can' t go wrong with the 308, 7mm-08, or 260 remington. I personally like the 260, but you' ll find just as many like the 7mm or 308. Really, they are all excellent for deer.

" Doesn' t have much recoil and packs a punch" has .260 Rem or 7mm-08 written all over it.

Don' t over look the .270 Win.It' s laid many a deer low and the recoil is mild.

The 25-06 or 7mm-08 would be ideal.

Nicolas, you' ve described the 7MM-08 to a tee!
I' ve always been a fan of the .308 Winchester, but after shooting the 7MM-08, I am convinced that it is the ultimate deer caliber!

My other rifles are seeing less time out of the gun closet since I got my 7mm-08 Rem. It is my absolute favorite for deer. Accurate, super ballistics and low recoil.

The 7mm-08 would be perfect for your needs, deer to atleast 300 yards & very pleasant to shoot

I would get the 7mm-08 if I did not handload. Tne 7mm bullet is fabled for its penetration.

If I reloaded I would buy a Winchester M70 Featherweight in 6.5x55 Swede; a Ruger would be my second choice.

If you handload and like to be a bit different but the 7x57 Mauser in the Ruger:)

Sounds like your going through what I am right now. I' m getting a T/C Encore and want a barrel for it like you described. I' m debating between the 7mm-08, 25-06 and 257roberts. All are great deer rounds with mild recoil. Good luck to ya' and let us know what you get.

It looks like I am going to get a 7mm-08. A friend of mine down here in Texas had one custom built and shot a buck two years back that flipped the deer and his rack stuck in the mud. That has never happened to me, but I would like for it to.
Thanks guys for the input.
