CCW newb

Hello all. Next week I am taking the Arizona CCW class. I am pretty comfortable with the piece I intend to carry - a Kimber Tactical Ultra.

I was wondering if any of you CCW holders have any suggestions for a beginner. Holster suggestions, places to carrry, any follow-up training such as combat, etc.

Thanks!

For the best concealement, an inside the waist band holster is the ticket. A good high ride belt holster, with a forward cant will conceal effectively as well.

Whatever holster you choose, pick up a good quality gun belt while you are at it. They do not come cheap but are worth every penny.

I carried an Ultra CDP for a few years.

I carried it in a Bianchi Minimalist holster. I would often run my belt around the outside of the holster to keep it extra snug to my body. I'm 6' tall, 180#.... so I'm fairly slender and don't wear baggy clothes, so I had to keep it from profiling too much. Worked great and carried nicely.

As to follow up training.... lots of dry fire drills.... a 1911 is a great carry gun so long as you are very proficient with it.

A good belt and holster is a must. There are tons of great custom holster makers out there, but some have very long wait times. Everybody always pushes Milt Sparks stuff (like the VM2), which are very nice, but be prepared to wait a long time...if they will even take your order. I'd suggest checking out Andrews Custom Leather, El Paso Saddlery, HBE, and Pure Kustom for starters. Good luck. :s2:

Thanks guys!

I have an outside the belt bianchi holster. It is a fine holster but it flops around way too much to properly conceal.

I have a Bianchi Model 82 CarryLok belt holster that conceals a Glock 27 very well, even in the summer. A quality gun belt may solve your problem.

How comfortable is that Crossbreed? I have been considering the Crossbreed or the Minotaur from Comp-Tac.

Check out BladeTech holsters. I use one of their IWBs for my GLock 23, they work a lot better than the Bianchis for the heavy semi-autos. Just a little harder to use as you must thread the belt rather than clip on.

IWB is the way to go unless you're a big guy. I have a paddle holster too, but I could never actually conceal a gun with it. at 150lbs and 5'10"

The Crossbreed is very comfortable, I carry either a Kimber .45 ultra or a Kimber .45 pro carry. they both are comfortable to carry all day. I have a box full of holsters abd the crossbreed is the my best.
