Default RE-Bluing a rifle

I got a great deal on this Savage Mod lll .338. The only problem with it, is that it needs to be re-blued. Is there a re-bluing kit that anyone can recommend? I saw this product called "Blue Wonder", it looked great and easy to apply on their website, but you know how that goes. Thanks in advanced.

I used that Blue-Wonder once and its pretty good...doesn't replace a professional bluing job though...

The hot bluing would cost you between $155 and $205 depending on how glossy you want the finish. If you don't mind doing some of the prep work yourself (stripping, polishing, ready to blue), it'd be $65.

I've tried the cold blue do-it-yourself kits, and I've never been very impressed with the results. They will never quite give the quality appearance of a professional hot caustic blue, and nowhere close to a rust blue. The cold blues also don't provide nearly the protection against rust that a hot blue will.

It you want to keep the gun for a long time with frequent use, I'd strongly suggest you spend the money for a quality bluing job.

That cold blueing crap is just that, crap. If you want a really low cost alternative to bluing, try duracoat. I love that stuff. But it won't come out looking origional. I think it's better.

If you want the bluing look, spend the money, go proffesional.

cold blueing can work fine for touch up or a part but I would not do an entire rifle. Depending on what you have into the rifle and the use it will see you may consider a teflon or duracoat finish

+1 Couldn't say it better myself! You can't cut corners on a rifle you want to keep and actually use.
If you have to save up, do it, it's well worth it in the end. 3-4 years from now and you will glad you went the extra mile
