recoil question

I am thinking about a centerfire barrel for my T/C Encore. I have a 209x50 and shoot 120 grains of Pyrodex RS and can handle the recoil just fine. I am wondering about a .270, .308 or 7mm Rem mag. and how the recoil might compare to my Pyrodex load. Call me a whimp if you want, but I don' t like the thought of my gun beating the snot out of me. Thanks. Jim

I dont know how to answer yer question i dont have a 50 cal encore:(. or a 270.pistol?

The gun will be equal in weight in all caliburs? what size weight projectiles in the 50? someones gota have a chart & energy generated comparisons of those id think?

Wish i could buy 270. etc barrels for my t/c contender.
or maybe a new encore :) lol

RE: recoil question

You will be well under the recoil of the ML with any of the cartriges you listed.

I figure it this way....... I shoot and hunt for fun and don' t want beat up in the process. If I want beat up, I smart off to my wife. [:o] WAIT That' s fun too. ;) Jim

RE: recoil question

I shoot a 50 Cal ML with 100-120 Grains Pyrodex and have all 3 you listed in my cabinet. I have a bad shooting shoulder which has made me become recoil aware and I have no problem sitting down for a good range session with the 50 cal and the 7 Rem Mag, with no after effects. IMO a ML recoil is more like a push then a jolt, I find my 7 Rem Mag to hit me a bit harder & stiffer than the ML with 120 grains of powder, however Like I said it doesn' t bother me any.

You should be ok with any of the cartridges you mentioned.

RE: recoil question

The .270 will have the least recoil.
Should be fine for all game up to elk and is fine for elk if you use the right bullet and make sure of your shot at reasonable ranges.

RE: recoil question

You didn' t say what BULLET weight you are shooting with the 120 grains of Pyro. That is the MAIN component in recoil!! If you shoot one of those HP rifle rounds, I suspect the bullet will be lighter, but the velocity about twice that of the Pyro load. Your total foot-pounds of recoil energy could conceivably be comparable, but it will happen a lot FASTER! (Higher recoil velocity). Consequently, it could SEEM to be more when it really isn' t. I used to find the recoil of a 200-grain load in a .30/' 06 to be less bothersome than recoil from a fast 150-grain load!
