BAR or BENELLI R1 300win mag or 300wsm
All right guy would like info on these two rifles once again good bad and ugly I have never had an auto rifle besides AR-15 so I figured this would be a good addition to my collection. Thanks for all the info I have always gone with yall's info over other forums

One vote for the BAR. I own a .30-06 and is quite smooth without a nasty kick! I use this as my brush / stalk gun in tight / swampy areas. It's light and fairly nimble for me..
Sorry I don't have any direct experience with the BEN... My dad's buddy has one and likes it, for what it's worth. |
x2 for the BAR. While I'm sure the R1 is a fine working rifle, it leaves a lot to be desired in it's over-the-top Eurotrash styling. The BAR, and in particular the BAR Safari, is both a great working AND looking rifle that I'd be proud to own.

I actually like the looks of the R1 and the fit is AWESOME! They shoulder like a shotgun, quick and on target right away. Have to keep them clean though...

I shot both, and own a bar (safari) and do not like the R1. Didn't shoot worth a crap.

X4 BAR. I don't much care for the looks of the R1.:s4:

Looks like the BAR is the one. Now what about these to Calibers 300win mag 300 wsm I have read one time that you can't shoot hot ammo through a auto is this true I use BARNES tsx and ttsx factory loads

As long are the rifle likes the ammo (accuracy wise), then any factory ammo should function safely. The BAR is also well known for its excellent reliability, so as long as you keep it reasonably clean and properly lubricated (meaning enough lube, but not too much, especially in cold weather) it should function fine.
The BAR is also pretty well known for decent hunting accuracy, with < 2 MOA groups being the norm. I wouldn't EXPECT any greater than this, but I've also heard of guys getting sub-MOA accuracy from the BAR. Probably the biggest thing hindering the BAR's accuracy is the relatively crappy trigger pull. It's not as bad as the worst "lawyer triggers," but it's pretty bad by my standards (I like my hunting rifle triggers at between 1.5-2.5 lbs). My pure estimate would be that they run in the 5-7lb range from the factory. A gunsmith can reduce and clean up the trigger a bit, if you can find one that will do the work (for liability reasons). my BAR in .270 is amazingly accurate.
I'm kinda a bolt action guy nowadays though, I think in a .300mag I'd want a bolt, don't see too many semi autos in .300mags, least I don't, you also might get into soe dangerous game with a .300mag and personally I'd rather have a bolt. |
now i love benelli and own one of their shotguns (sbe2) ive never shot the r1, but i must say my BAR in .30-06 shoots like a dream, mine shoots about 2in groups at 150yd which for a semi is pretty good, and has little recoil till you get upwards of 180gr the only beef i have about it is its weight, its heavier than all of my guns minus my .22-250 varmint rifle

Dont like the look of the BAR and absolutly hate the look or the Ben. Love the BAR safari and theyre right at home in the woods. Thats why id go with a non mag calibur but thats my opinion. Id opt for the 30-06 just for the historic aspect of it.

Been hunting with an R1 in 338 Win Mag for 3 years now and the only way I will give that gun up is from my dead hands. Keep it clean and find the right ammo it will shoot just as good as any of the 3 BARs I have owned but with less recoil.

I own 2 BARs in 338WM and really like the rifles. One has the BOSS system (don't care for it much) and the other is an older (made in Belgium) and is just plain fun to shoot. I've never shot a Benelli R-1 although I own and shoot a Benelli Nova pump shotgun and like it a lot. Somebody suggested putting both rifles up to your shoulder in a gun store (good advice). If you have friends who own each rifle, see if you can fire a few rounds from each. My personal vote is for the BAR but I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

300 WSM, hands down over the 300 Win mag. It's the fastest growing choice in big game cartridge for many reasons.

You do realize this is a 5 year old post. He probably all ready got the rifle he wanted. But that being said one of the decisions that I regret is not getting a used bar grade 2 Belgium made in 3006 @ cabelas about 5 years ago for $399
