BAR or BENELLI R1 300win mag or 300wsm

my BAR in .270 is amazingly accurate.
I'm kinda a bolt action guy nowadays though, I think in a .300mag I'd want a bolt, don't see too many semi autos in .300mags, least I don't, you also might get into soe dangerous game with a .300mag and personally I'd rather have a bolt.

now i love benelli and own one of their shotguns (sbe2) ive never shot the r1, but i must say my BAR in .30-06 shoots like a dream, mine shoots about 2in groups at 150yd which for a semi is pretty good, and has little recoil till you get upwards of 180gr the only beef i have about it is its weight, its heavier than all of my guns minus my .22-250 varmint rifle

Dont like the look of the BAR and absolutly hate the look or the Ben. Love the BAR safari and theyre right at home in the woods. Thats why id go with a non mag calibur but thats my opinion. Id opt for the 30-06 just for the historic aspect of it.

Been hunting with an R1 in 338 Win Mag for 3 years now and the only way I will give that gun up is from my dead hands. Keep it clean and find the right ammo it will shoot just as good as any of the 3 BARs I have owned but with less recoil.

I own 2 BARs in 338WM and really like the rifles. One has the BOSS system (don't care for it much) and the other is an older (made in Belgium) and is just plain fun to shoot. I've never shot a Benelli R-1 although I own and shoot a Benelli Nova pump shotgun and like it a lot. Somebody suggested putting both rifles up to your shoulder in a gun store (good advice). If you have friends who own each rifle, see if you can fire a few rounds from each. My personal vote is for the BAR but I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

You do realize this is a 5 year old post. He probably all ready got the rifle he wanted. But that being said one of the decisions that I regret is not getting a used bar grade 2 Belgium made in 3006 @ cabelas about 5 years ago for $399
