RE: let's talk CCW

Howler,

I was issued mine in upstate New York. The application was $115, but their is no requirement for attending a CCW class in my county. I'm not even sure if anyone even offers a class in my area. My wife also has hers, which was issued in another county. Same deal, no class required. Some counties require that you pay for the gun, and then apply for a purchase coupon after you provide the serial numbers, then have to go back and pick it up. My county is pretty good. They give you the coupons ahead of time, so if you come across a good buy away from home you can walk out with it the same day. Many counties in New York do require classes, prior to being issued a permit.

We're talking about a permit to carry a concealed weapon, not a permit to purchase a handgun. I didn't think that NYS allowed mere civilians the right to CCW.

I'm glad you caught that driftrider, because at first when I read Chazey's reply, I was thinkin' to myself that "it just can't be that people are issued a CCW permit without going through at least some informal training on when and where you are allowed to carry, and laws that may come into play if you ever fire a shot, etc." IMO, everyone should be required to shoot/show profeciency with handguns, before being issued a CCW permit.

I love Alabama, I got my permit last month all I did was go to the Sheriff's office tell the secretary I wanted a permit she handed me a form to fill out told me what to skip on the form, she made a phone call and I was out of there in 10 min. Only cast $20 and she didn't even check my driver's license.

I filled out a form, provided a copy of my Hunter safety course certificate that i took when I was 14. Paid 35 bucks, got mine in the mail few weeks later.

All in all it was a great class. The instrcutor also teaches at Gunsight in AZ and spent alot of time with us on the range helping us understand realistic situations.

I'd love to talk CCW with you guys, but I live in ISSR (Illinois Soviet Socialists Republic), & Mayor Daley & his downstate cronies don't trust us pleebs with weapons...

That would be the same ISSR as our esteemed Mr. O'Vomit hailed from? Good news for us low-life gun owners.

I believe you guys are confusing New York City with New York State. I live about 300 miles from the City. I have a CCW permit. There is no formal training required for my county, although I would not complain about it if it were required.
