.22 recomendations
I'm looking into buying a 22LR that I can shoot with my daughter (she's 10 yrs old)...something affordable, but solid and reliable. I've seen the Remington Model Five, which I liked, and was wanting some input on other recommendations. Thanks.

I personally like the Savage Mark II, but the Ruger 10/22 is hard to beat as far as aftermarket accessories go. Either is perfectly reliable.

Price and reliability... the Ruger 10/22. They're tough, accurate and reliable and less than $200.

I love my Savage Mark II. I would also recommend a bolt action, a automatic for such a young child for their own saftey would not be a good idea.

As much as I like Ruger 10/22s, I'd have to go with a bolt action or even a single shot when teaching someone new. It will force them to make the 1st shot count. Look at the various bolt actions. I'm trying to remember who used to make a bolt action repeater with a removable single shot adapter. I think it was Remington.

for a 10 year old child bolt action only ..with good supervision ..accidents do happen ..play it save ..she can always upgrade later to a semi-auto when she is in full control ..

RE: .22 recomendations
I have not seen the Remington Model five. I have heard great things about the Model Five.
I own a Remington Model 580; mine is a single shot that shoots shorts, longs or long rifles. I also own a Ruger Model 10/22 that is chambered in 22-mag. Both of my rifles are good shooters but I think they stopped making theRemington Model 580? |

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree with the bolt action recommendation, which the Rem Mod Five is. Is the Ruger and the Savage bolt action as well?
