7MM Rem Mag Ammo

RE: 7MM Rem Mag Ammo
Accuracy considerations aside, most 7mm R Mag. factory ammo is badly underloaded. For example, I can get over 3000 FPS from 175-grain handloads, while the factory is claiming 2860 which may or may not be their actual MV. Why shoot a 7mag when it only performs as well as the 280 REM does with less powder?

RE: 7MM Rem Mag Ammo
My Savage M110 7mm shoots everything well (under 1 MOA). The Winchester Supreme 150 grain BST shoot super tight groups (sub-MOA past 300 yards) in that rifle and Federal Premium 160 grain Nosler Partitions only slightly larger groups (and absolutely devestating on everything I have shot with it).
IMO, the 7mm is generally a very accurate cartridge regardless as to the factory ammo maker. Find a round that your rifle likes, you are comfortable with, and can readily purchase.

Here is a bullet weight/barrel twist chart http://www.riflebarrels.com/products...wist_rates.htm that is a good place to start. Try different brands in the correct weight range for your twist until you pick a winner. My old Savage 7 mag always liked Federal.

RE: 7MM Rem Mag Ammo
About all I am doing is echoing what others have already posted. Any of the factory loads using any of the many different controlled expasion bullets will do the job. The 7 mm Rem. Mag. is a fine choice for a huting rifle. Not my favorite ... but.
Truth is that every rifle will "like" a certain load better than any other load. The proof is in the consistency of tight groups.I worked up a load for a 6.5x55 Se I have. Some of what I worked up grouped as poorly as almost 3 MOA. The "sweet" combo groups under 1 MOA. That is not uncommon.
You stated that the Rem. CoreLokt ammo that you have groups well and you have had good results on game, including moose. Based upon that info, I see no reason to change. Take a look at the Lot # of the ammo as another mentioned. It should be printed on the box. If you can locate more ammmo in this same Lot#, then the odds are that the loading will be almost identical and the ammo will group more or less the same round to round.

Give the Federal Fusion a try. It seems to be accurate in quite a few different rifles, and the bullets perform darn near as well as the Accubond. Cost a heckuva lot less, too.
Federal is offering 150gr and 175gr Fusion loads...these should cover just about anything you'd want to hunt with that rifle/cartridge combo.

Say you have had good luck with the core-lokts..... Then the core-lokts are the very best ammo out there! [:-]
I personally like the HornadyCustom SST 154gr. p/n 8062, works good in my ol' Remington 700.
