which .22 compact??

grettings all

This summer I plan on taking my 2 year old son exploring our family farm. I wanted to get a little .22 pistol to dispatchany vermin if neccesary during our treks. Something light and was hoping for a polymer frame at a reasonable price. Any suggestions??? Anybody have any feedback on the walther p22??

Thanks

Just an idea but what would be wrong with a small framed .22 revolver such as a S&W "kit gun" with adjustable sights? With a revolver you can shoot the shotshells and conventional bullet loads interchangeably. You can also shoot full power and quieter CB caps in the same cylinder. I think S&W even makes a very lightweight model in alloy frame or even scandium. Taurus also makes several models of revolvers to choose from.

thanks sb. I'll take that into consideration. I've shot handguns many times but am not that familiar with what's all out there and have yet to own one

Another good thing about revolvers, especially for beginners, is the fact that revolvers are MUCH simpler to operate and you can instantly tell if they're loaded or not. When teaching new people on handguns, I usually like for them to at least try a revolver out.

I'd get a Ruger MK-III...I bought a MK-II in the 80s and can easily kill squirrels out to 25 yards...
Small pistols are fine but if you want to hit what you are aiming at, go with a 4-6 inch barrel...

If you have to have a semiauto, and polymer frame, the Ruger 22/45 is VERY accurate & is going to be impossible to beat for the price. It shoots .22LR only but .22LR is the cheapest of all .22 ammo however. http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firear...7&return=Y

S&W 317 is a nice little package, holds 8 rounds and only weights 11 oz's.
