Anyone know about Winchester 25-35 carbine, lever action?
Just saw an add for this used lever gun in my local paper. What kind of gun would this be used for? What size game? Is it a common caliber or something I would have to search long and hard for to get ammo in stores? Is this a flat shooter or more of a short range lobber? Is it close to the 30-30 capabilities? What kind of price range would be a good deal? Is this agun that is everywhere? Feedback would be helpfull. Would this take down black bears, mountain lions?

I THINKthe 25-35 is obsolete pistol type round. Far less powerful than a 30-30. Ammo would probably be pretty expensive, if we can find it.

Heres the ballistics- http://www.rifleshootermag.com/ballistics/25_35_winchester.html
A quick search pulled up a couple different sources of ammo, not overly priced. It seems Win still makes ammo for it. As far hunting goes, I would think would have enough pop out to 100 yards, but unless this gun is just a steal of a deal, I think I would pass. |

Is there even such a cartridge for this? I've never heard of this over the years. Can anyone even verify this bullet?
It's peaked my curiosity all of a sudden. |

Yes it is a rifle cartridge and guns that shoot it havn't been made for a few years so ammo is hard to find . Winchester and Marlin both made rifles chambered in this caliber as well as others . I had one in the model 1892 Win .

25-35 winchester was introduced in 1895, although it would kill a deer it would not be my recomadition, 100 yds would be streching it,It is less powerfull than the 250 savage. It would be more of a small game gun. How much is he asking and what gun is it?

ORIGINAL: popeye I THINKthe 25-35 is obsolete pistol type round. Far less powerful than a 30-30. Ammo would probably be pretty expensive, if we can find it. It shoots 117-grain bullets at 2200 FPS, so it is far less powerful than a .30/30. Yet it is a deer cartridge, and has accounted for lots of them. Ammo is hard to find these days, since oit is obsolete. But ammo can be made by resizing .30/30 brass. It is definitely a short-range proposition. |
