how would you go about getting bullets like that legally?
Any quality varmint bullet moving at a high rate of speed with pretty much disintegrate on impact. Thats what makes those varmints explode like that. Also makes them useless for anything but varmints.

I gotta agree....we shoot .22 Mag' s and .22 hornet and they do the same damage, no exploding tips. I couldn' t believe it until I actually bought my gun. Gotta love it

Ok,

Gotta admit goin groundhog hunting isn' t real big up here - so I don' t really understand it.

I' ve got no problem killing to survive, for food or to eliminate pests.

OK...

Maybe that shot was in self defense.

Maybe groundhog feet taste really good.

But... how many ground hog pests can there be. From what I can see the industry is pretty big. Do people raise and release them for targets like a pheasant farm?

What are the demographics of a groundhog shoot (who goes)?

I mean is it fun for the whole family? Professional pest controllers? Or graduates from frogs and firecrackers?

Enlighten me.

Just like every other animal out there they need to be controled. Besides that reason, prarie dogs carry numerous diseases like the plague. They also desimate everything around their colony. They also will continue to dig more and more holes and if you have cattle or horses sharing tha same land they could break their legs and you wouldn' t know it for sometime while the livestock sits out there dying. They are a real nasty animal.

Hog....we have so many gophers (groundhogs) out west that they are having derby' s to weed them out. Saskatchewan is really bad, Alberta is just starting this year. You would be hard pressed to find a farmer out here who wouldn' t let you shoot the little buggers. Oddly enough, it is fun for the family! I shot my first gun and bow at gophers. All be it not a 22-250, but a .22 none the less, and I was taught gun safety that way. It lets you practice your shooting style also and let' s you shoot a lot in the off season. They can really get out of hand in crop fields as well. So if you get a chance, try it....you just might love it. I doJDinAB

i know there a problem for the states that have them but i do wish we had some, it looks like something to keep your shooting skills in tune during the offseason.

If you do want to use the .444 Marlin, try the 180g XTP or Sierra HP. You will get 2900 to 3000 fps from them. Very destructive indeed!
