RE: Clear chamber or locked and loaded.
ORIGINAL: bigcountry I definately do not, (DO NOT) keep one in the chamber. If I hear a noise in my house, I am getting my semi, and then chambering one. I have a wife who has night terrors on occasion, I have a young son who will be walking soon. I need to make darn sure of my target before firing. Irresponsibility like this is reason us gun owners have to work so hard these days. I have witnessed 2 accidents with a firearm being fired in a house by keeping one in the chamber. And sadly enough, one time was my fault. Because I always insisted in one in the chamber. I get home from work one night when I was in college, and put my gun down I always carried, and my drunk room mate came in and all heard next was BOOM. Shot a 9mm straight thru the wall into the oven. |
RE: Clear chamber or locked and loaded.
There seems to be a confusion between concealed carry, of which the ONLY choice is fully loaded, and home defense, of which leaves a LOT of leeway in actual practice. What I related is when carrying, my actual experience. I maintain that it's personal preference when talking about home defense, but it's worse than foolish when carrying concealed to have a strange shaped rock-ie an unloaded gun. Hope that cleared this discussion up a bit. Neil

RE: Clear chamber or locked and loaded.
I am a concealed carrier and my pistol is always loaded and chambered. It stays in my IWB holster at all times and the trigger is covered by the holster. I carry a Glock so the only safety is built into the trigger already. In the home we have a 20 gauge,12 gauge and a .22 pistol loaded but not chambered and the Glock is always in the drawer of my nightstand at night. When I first got my cpl I toyed with the idea of carrying un-chambered and my wife said it best...."carry it chambered or dont carry it at all.....man up"
I dont have kids yet, so when that happens I plan on getting a pistol safe for bedside storage and locking up the rest of the guns. |
