Default Gun for me!

Ok so I'm looking for a Rifle with these Specifications.
1. Cheap ammo
2. Big enough for Coyotes
3. Not to expensive
4. Bolt action
5. wont run me over with power
Iwas thinking something like a .22 mag. My dad has one but I was wanting to get a rifle of my own.
If you guys have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Depending on your budget and range at which you want to shoot. I would say a stevens model 200 in a 223, 243, or 308 for about $300. A Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 will run about $100-130.

Also look at savages, mossberg atr, weatherby vanguard, used remington 700--All of these can be found in the $350-450 range.

.223-cheapest, least recoil, probably too small for most deer sized game
.243-good compromise, not much recoil, fun to shoot, good for yotes and deer
.308-sometimes mil surp ammo is available, but not much lately. Good all around cartridge

Get a CZ 527 in .223 caliber and use military surplus ammo in it.

What is the difference between a .22 LR and a .22 WMR. Is the the WMR the .22 mag?

1. Marlin XS7 in .243 soon to be in a store near you.
2. Mossberg ATR 100 in .243
3. Stevens 200 in .243

All of the above with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 scopewould putan est $$425-450 dent in your budget.

22wmr=22mag. It has a larger case capacity than a 22lr. A .223 is a much more powerful centerfire cartridge. If you are looking at rimfires, I like the marlin 917 in 17hmr.

IMO if you plan touse either a 17HMR or 22WMRyour range for use on 'yotes is limitedaround 100yds give or take a little. Both are limited in the range department. I know people claim to use these rimfires at much longer ranges but if you need more range I would goto a 223 instead.
