Mossburg bantam 20 gauge recoil:

Hey guys,
I just bought a Mossburg bantam synthetic 20 gauge for my 12 year old son and wife to use for turkey season this year. I had never shot a 20 gauge before, always 12. This thing kicks like a mule!! I just assumed it would be a much lighter recoil. It wasn't so much the kick to the shoulder it was the beating my face took!! I only shot it 3 times, that was enough to know that there is no way a small boy or my 100 pound wife would be able to handle it.

What do you think? Any suggestions on less recoil??

Thanks for the help!!
Brian

I'll buy it, Just kiding.
I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on my wifes 870 20gaugeand it made all the differance in the world for her.
How does the Bantem shoot?
I am looking to get the Mossberg Super Bantem Slugster in a 20 gauge for myself.
After carrying hers around one day, I said I need a light gun like this.
Mine is a Mossberg 935 scoped slug gun.

I seriously don't think this kicks much less than my old Mossburg 500!!! I got the slug barrel with it, I'm thinking a slug would really put a hurting on cheek bone!!!

I think I'm taking it back to the shop I bought it from tomorrow and selling at as used!![:@]

More than likely it is slapping you in the cheek because it doesn't fit you. With the shorter stock on it, it will probably fit your wife and child a bit better, and they wont feel what you do.
A recoil pad, and adding weight to the stock will reduce the recoil either way.

Your probably right, the stock is adjustable and I have it shortened as short as it will go. How do I add weight to the stock???

Thanks!!!!

You can add weight to the stock by taking off the recoil pad and filling it with a baggie full of lead shot (or something else heavy), and then replacing the recoil pad.
