Nikon Prostaff?

Is a nikon prostaff 2-7x32 enough scope for a .270?

It will work fine on all but the longest range, but if you don't already have it, I'd suggest going with the Prostaff 3x-9x-40mm. Too many people overscope themselves these days.

It will work but I think a 3x9 40mm would be better for a 270. The 2x7 will make it a bit more challenge to get the full range potential of the 270.

I used one for years on my 270.... it will do a fine job and give a nice wide fov in the close up/hip pocket woods hunting situations. Not much diff in the 3x9 cept the 3x9 will help if you shoot really long distances. I made multiple 300-325 yd kills with my 2x7 though. I have that exact 2x7 Pro-Staff on a 7-08 now and that is my go to deer gun and scope.

3x9x40 is sound advice for a matching scope to caliber. At extended ranges the 2x7 will be a stretch. If you envision shots less than 150 yards on an ongoing basis then the 2x7 aligns to your need.

Quite a few rifle hunters use only a 4x fixed power scope. People who are good shotssometimes prefer a fixed power scope onhigh powered rifles. Idon't have anyfixed power scopes onmy guns b/c I don't consider myself that great of a shot. I would say that a 2-7 would be fine for a 270. I have a 3-9 on my 30.06 and love it. Good luck!

I prefer the 3x9x40. I have 2 of these prostaff's and one straight 4...
Great scope for the $$

I would go out on a limb and say that if your using it for under 150 yards your fine, unless it's for varmints.

I have a 2-7 Leupold on my muzzle loader and it works just fine. Although as I get older I could use more scope!!??

I would agree with the others and recommend the 3-9 if you want to entertain that.

How often do you turn your current scope up to maximum power.

Rarely do I find myself zooming up to 9x, even on longer shots, those at 200 yds and up. I find myself concentrating on the game, getting the cross hairs on target and getting the shot off, rather than the power that my scope. Often I find that, with the cross hairs on target, I'll zoom in just enough to feel confindent in the shot, without regard to the actual power number. AFter the shot, more often than not, the power ring is in the 6x- 7x range. That said, I use a 2X7 on my 338-06 but have 3x9's on most of my other big game rifles, including a 270.
