RE: Ziess Conquest
I own two Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 X 44mm (on my 243 and 300wsm).They are great scopes for all the reasons already mentioned. I prefer the higher magnification because I use occasionally see predators while deer huning and the 14x is great to have.Especially shooting a fox at 300+ yards.

RE: Ziess Conquest
The 2.5X scopes are more for guys hunting very large and dangerous game at very close ranges found mostly in Africa. Open sights still are the norm there but, someone wanting a piece of glass would use something like these. The fixed 4X would be more common in North America for a faster gun. |
RE: Ziess Conquest
The 2.5x scopes are selected, because they allow for quicker target acquisition than a higher power scope. Regardless of where you hunt, the 2.5x will allow for quicker target acquisition. |
RE: Ziess Conquest
It's also only just 1X more than the Conquest 3.5X10 on the low end. http://www.zeiss.com/c1256bcf0020be5...256bcf0061320d |
RE: Ziess Conquest
The 3.5x10x44 Conquest has a maximum field of view of 35' at 100 yards, compared to only 25' for the 4.5x14x44.In other words the 3.5x adds 40% to the field of view over the 4.5x.That is a substantial difference. Also notice that the 4.5X14 is better in low light than the 3.5X10. http://www.zeiss.com/c1256bcf0020be5f/Contents-Frame/e34e4125aa548d6685256bcf0061320d |

RE: Ziess Conquest
Only if you judge based entirely on twilight factor which is nothing more than a calculation.Exit pupil, the other calculation used to determine low light performance, favors the 3.5x10x44. Or it’s a shot of a lifetime in fading light conditions. Using both in lower light I can say that the 4.5X14 is clearer in low light than the 3.5X10. |

A human eye will only alow so much light to enter, and after that point, a bigger exit pupil doesn't matter. You can add 6 inches to the onjective lens, and it still wouldn't matter even thoughthe exit pupil keeps ketting bigger as the objective lens gets bigger... Depending on your age, 40mm pretty much gets you there, and after that it's really up to the quality of the glass and it's coatings... DM |
