hey guys ive narrowed it down to 2 rifles thanx to all your help thanx a million what im wondering now would a stevens 200 be an ok coyote rifle i dontplan on using the rifle very often just shoot the yotes when i get the chance so would the 200 be ok or is there a big enough difference i should get the savage 111 i found a stevens for 300 and the savage for 475 i just cant see the reason to spend that much when i will use the gun so little but i want a good rifle so should i go the cheaper route or spend the extra money and get the savage thanx again

RE: another 243 question

The Stevens will work...no doubt. However, the Accu-trigger on the Savage is sure nice. I'd go with the Savage if it were my choice. Whether (or not) it's worth the extra $ is your decision. Good luck.

For a every so often gun go with the Stevens, and get some good glass.

There is no reason that the Stevens wont work good for you. Just put a descent scope on it and practice enough with it to get good and comfortable with the gun. Practice is the key.

xi32,
Hell, if you know what caliber you want? The hard part's done. Now, (here's where the wallet comes in) which one do you WANT? Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have been reading good reviews on the Marlin XL-7 and they are coming out with a short action version, the XS-7. It has a trigger similar to Savage's Accu-trigger and will come in .243, 7MM-08 and .308.
I am waiting to get my hands on one in .243! You might want to find the Marlin before deciding!

RE: another 243 question

I have had a few different deer rifles. The only one I ever miss is an old Remington 788 in .243 Winchester. Had the trigger set at 23oz. That was the only gunsmith work ever done on the rifle. What a sweet shooter. I've been a .243 fan ever since.

That Stevens will do a fine job for you.

Stevens will do good, but practice is key. it can be an every-so-often gun for hunting, but it has to be an often to practice and get good. Good luck and let us know what you choose.

RE: another 243 question

i bought a stevens 22-250 for my wife and with handloads it will shoot half inch all day but i have done some tinkering with the trigger. with the accutrigger it should be good to go. its a win win so the question is which one do you like best?
