300 WSM vs 300 Win Mag vs 300 Weatherby
 

I need some opinions here. I'm stricktly an archery hunter so I have no clue when it comes to rifles for the most part. I'm gettin my son his first rifle. He's 17 and is not affraid of recoil. He wants the 300 WSM since my brother in law shoots one and they can do some reloading. Is the WSM that much better than the others? After looking at all his options he says the Weatherby Vanguard fits him the best so that's what we'll be buying. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think either choice would be fine...
I would personally buy the WSM and as you mentioned it works on the reciprocating with your relative,
which is never a bad thing if you ever forget your bullets...

I agree with you 100%. That way they can reload togther. That way only one set of dies have to be bought.

SInce you have a relative that reloads, I'd go with with the WSM all the way!

I have a Vanguard in 300 WBY and I love it. With that said the recoil it BIG and I would rather have a 300 WSM I found the rifle I wanted and it was in the WBY so I took it. The WSM will do anything the others will but with less recoil. i am not recoil sensitive either but feel it.

I'd pick either the .300 WSM, or .300 Wby.

I have a .300 Win Mag and a .340 Wby.

Figure out what kind of power you want, If you want .300 win mag type of performance get the .300 WSM, if you want .300 RUM, WBY power, get the .300 WBY.
