Rifle and shotgun storage

Currently my inventory of rifles and shotguns are standing up (barrel up) in my home office. We are getting ready to move and I am looking to buy some soft side gun cases for some of them. I' m not sure where I will store them when we move.

1) Is it OK to keep them in a gun case standing up in a closet?
2) Would you recommend getting one of those Silicone treated " Sack-ups" to go in the case as well?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

A down-side to storing in the soft-sided cases. Some of them don' t " breathe" and can be very good at keeping moisture in, promoting rust. I think that' s a common problem with the low-end foam cases.

You might want to take a look at the Homak gun cabinets. Not as bulky or expensive as a safe, more secure what you' re currently doing.

It' s alright to use a soft case to transport. Other then that it' s not a good idea for storing. These cases hold moisture and will surely cause rust. It' s much better if you don' t have a safe to leave them in the open air.For added protection I use a sheep skin saturated with RIG.Buying a safe would be a good investment for several reasons .Then buy a heated rod for it. You can get decent safes for around 1000.00 or even less depending on size and features.

i used to store mine in a hard platic storage case. with T foam inside. as long as the gun is dry ( whipe off excess oil etc ) and the T foam inside are dry you will have no problem at all.
after all. i did store my first two like that for 3 years before investing in a gun safe
