My question to you all I am planning loading Nosler Partitions for deer. Is this the best choice for minimal meat loss.I know with it velocity potential they will need to be pretty good construction

The 110gr accubond is a great choice for deer hunting with a 257wby.

are they more solid bullet than a partition

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

Another vote for the 110 gr accubond. My friend uses them in his .25-06 for deer and antelope. They've been great performers on all game he's shot.

For my .308's and .277's,accubonds have worked just as well as partitions on game, and I shoot better groups with accubondsat thetarget range.

I find that they retain as much weight as a partition, but they shoot slightly flatter.

how are the Sciroccos

stubblejumper 02-08-2009 08:17 AM

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

I tried sciroccos in two rifles, but the accuracy was terrible in my rifles, and copper fouling was extreme.

so you would recomment the accubonds

stubblejumper 02-08-2009 08:29 AM

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

The accubonds are a good choice for deer as is the Hornady interbond. The ttsx is also a great bullet, but it isn't required for deer.Of course there is no way of knowing which bullet your gun will prefer.

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

yes I agree I do plan on trying the accubonds first.all my other guns always loved nosler bullets Also is the Norma brass and weatherby brass the same thing

stubblejumper 02-08-2009 09:36 AM

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

Norma used to supply the Weatherby brass and the Weatherby factory loads.I am assuming that they still do,but I can't say for sure.

Are the prices the same,or is the Weatherby brass higher priced? In any case,I would buy whichever is cheaper, since they are likely exactly the same.

does anyone have opinions in dies? My previous dies were RCBS they worked good But had a set of Redding that I loved

stubblejumper 02-09-2009 05:47 PM

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

All of my current dies are RCBS,and they all work fine.If you do have a problem with any RCBS product, the customer service is great.

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

Devil advocate here but when for a biggame hunting rifle where my long end of range is 500 yards I see no need for the additional mag. 9 or 10 upper end has worked for me well. Off a bench the extraX's is nice but in the field holding even 9x steady can be difficult here on the prairie's. On paper or varmits where the target size is shrunk considerably sure but there are still times where high mag/conditions don't work in this application either, requiringoneto power down. Also being the majority of the time in the middle x range of a variable scope when hunting I just don't see the need to spent the extra money on touch more mag. that may only see use off a bench. Again just my opinion.

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

skeeter i do see your point I just dont have real good vision,When i have to start straining to see my astigmitism kicks in and cant focus,I just think if image was bigger I would have as much eye strain

stubblejumper 03-04-2009 04:13 AM

RE: 257 Weatherby Magnum

Magnifying distortion due to being out of focus can actually increase eye strain, especially if you can't properly stabilize the image due to the increased magnification.
