I have studied and really thinking on a 270 WSM ,My question how is the recoil compared to say a 7 mag or 30-06

So, here's the deal. For all that most of us fire ourbig gamehunting rifle over the course of a year, you're not going to feel the effects of that dreaded "recoil" any more than you'll experience aches and pains associated with a day of hiking around in the woods. I trust that not many of us will take a .378 Weatherby Magnum (et al) to the prairie dog town or to the rifle rangewith a couple boxes of ammo? One, the stuff's spendy, and Two, you're in for some punishment, shooting from either a bench or prone.

I remember one season cracking off two quick shots (first one missed) at an elkwith a .375 H&H. My shoulder hurt much less (funny, I really don't even remember it) than did my back, shoulders, arms, and legs after hauling that quarteredbrute across a mile-and-a-half of deadfall timber and through two swamps over the next two days.

Unless you have significant shoulder problems, recoil doesn't merit the worrylots of folkshere make it out to be. And if you DO have shoulder problems, the quandry over .30-05, 7mmRM, or .270WSM is relatively pointless, as what you probably ought to be considering is a caliber based on a lower-volume case (i.e. .308, 7mm-08, .260, .243).

If you need to worry about something, worry about the rifle'sweight, the optics,worry about getting in shape before hunting season, and worry about bullet selection (though any of the calibers you mention are more than capable of taking a deer, provided you do your part getting a bullet downrange)

i have a weatherby vanguard that was chambered for 270 wsm. recoil wasnt bad, about that of a 7mm mag with a 140 but i wasnt happy with the rifle. poor feeding, expensive ammo, large muzzleblast. just overall not my idea of a good hunting rifle. so i had it re builtfor 6.5 wsm. didnt help much but dang does the rifle shoot. i have been making plans and scratching up some extra cash for my next build. i it will be a .270 wsm i know that (dont ask me why)the cartridge works really well but i guess its something like a chevy fan driving a ford. it will work but it dont feel right doing it. if you can find a good supply of cheap ammo the 7mm rsaum is a great round with less recoil. it uses less powder then the wsm's but is more efficicent and can be faster in the rifle barrel lengths

I have a Tikka T3 Lite.270 wsm and love it! Notice the lite part.....I would compare the recoil to that of an '06 shooting a 150 grn.factory load. I went with the .270 wsm because my .300wsm just kicked too much for me to be able to practice with it effectivly andas a result my groups were all over the place.I put a good recoil pad on my Tikka and I don't notice the recoil at all. Last week I shot my first group of hand loads ever. Without the flinch my groups are spot on! See links.

Also if you are looking for a new rifle I would suggest the Tikka.I have 2 and they both shoot like a dream!! It's a great value and a top shooter.

i have a 270m wsm and love it the kick is about the same as a 06. i have a win. model 70

I went yesterday gun shopping and that was my first choice The one i saw i liked most was the Tikka.Until I saw the cdl-sf in a 257 Weatherby Mag I could'nt resist it

The recoil from my Savage 16 in 270 wsm was very similar to my Ruger M77 30-06 with 150 grain bullets. The 270 wsm was just a tad sharper but not bad at all.

If you like that .257 then I guess it's only a matter of what you'll be hunting with it. IMO great for deer or antelope. But if you're looking at larger game????I myrethink the caliber.

I was @ the range this week a guy on the bench next to me had a 270wsm.I asked him about the recoil,he said it was more than his .06 & less than his 7mm mag.
