federal blue box ammo?
anyone shoot the federal blue box power shok in a 30-06? i know its just a soft point, anyone have a pic of one thats ben recovered?i have ben told that a 165 grain bullet works best out of a 1 in 10 twist barrel {the book just said rate of twist10''} heard hornady works good in stevens/savage guns. |
RE: federal blue box ammo?
I shoot 165 grain Light Magnum Interbonds in my Winchester. But that's Hornady ammo. It'll kill to say the least.;)

RE: federal blue box ammo?
I use it in my 270 (130 gr)for deer, my son uses it in his 30-06 (150 gr)for deer and my daughter uses it in her .243 (100 gr)for deer. I shot a deer two weeks ago head on at the base of his neck / brisquit with the 130 grain .270 bullets. The bullet entered his chest, blew about half the heart off, turned the lungs to jelly (the only parts of the lungs that were recognizable I could hold in one hand), through the stomach, through the intestines and stopped just under the skin right above his penis. I recovered teh bullet and it weighed 98 grains for 75% weight retention. It mushroomed back to the cannelure and stopped. I know this is but one example but pretty dang good performance if you ask me.
The next weekend my daughter shot her first buck in the spine and obviously dropped the deer right there. That bullet was not recovered, although we did find one small fragment of lead in the meat. AS for the rate of twist goes, a 165 bullet may or may not be the best shooting bullet out of your rifle and a 165 grain bullet does not correlate one bit to being the best weight fora 1 in 10 twist barel. The twist needed in a given barrel is determined by the length of the bullet for a given caliber and velocity at which that bullet will be traveling... NOT the weight.A 30-06 with a1 in 10 twist will stabilize bullets up to about 200 grains... give or take, depending on what bullet is being used. |
RE: federal blue box ammo?
I've been wanting to try this out and the Wal-Marts that sell it around here have been sold out. I went to a gun show today and one of the vendors had some so I bought a box of the 30-06 150 grain. I plan to try it out and see how my gun likes it. It's very picky about ammo. Isn't accurate with much but it likes the Federal Fusions so I thought I'd try these since they are a little cheaper.

RE: federal blue box ammo?
I've got a buddy that uses them in the 180gr, I've killed several with them in the 100gr .243 loading...
If I remember correctly, they use the Speer Hot Core bullet...They do fine on deer... |
RE: federal blue box ammo?
LOL All I can say is be careful on the close range sharp angle shots as the damage will border on wow....lol. My 270 loves it...the deer hate it. Those bullets do massive damage.

RE: federal blue box ammo?
My 270 loves the "blue box" 130gr. I have taken a lot of deer with them over the years and they never let me down. I don't think you will be disappointed in there performance, as long as your gun likes them.

RE: federal blue box ammo?
I bought some for my new Model 700 .243 and I shot a box and went back to get some more and the guy was out and I got some Winchester. I wouldn't have believed how much different those two shot. I ended up ordering 10 boxes of the Federal from Midway USA.
