Need New Trail Gun
Hey Guys, I am in need of a new trail gun, it will be for trapping, going in the woods, possible self defense against wild dogs, coyotes. I was thinking .22 mag but I m truly devoted to a .22, was thinking Ruger single six but my property is large and it is easy to get lost. I and I will need the power to kill a deer if needed. please give advice give comments on ruger single six , one thing is I want it to be very accurate but then again I need it soon.

RE: Need New Trail Gun
The ruger single six is a great choice. How many days do you intend to get lost on your on property? Know your ground. Carry a compass. Use arial maps or whatever. Try not to get lost, the single six is a great choice tho.

I would think a good .357, .41, .44mag revolver would be IDEAL for your uses. It's what I would (AND DID) choose myself, except having free run on 120,000 acres would be a dream to me. If you're absolutely dead set on an .22LR, go with a mk2 or mk3 Ruger semi-auto. The .22 magnum when shot out of Ruger Single Six, especially with at least 6.5" barrel, SHOULD do just about anything you need. Need any help patrolling all that acreage????

I do occasional work for some of the local ranchers most the ranchers and ranch hands carry 357 magnum and 45 colt revolvers.

RE: Need New Trail Gun
If you could find a good 41 Mag, then you would have something. it sounds like you want a single action revolver, so i would recommend a ruger. those guns are built hell for stout and are reliable and shoot as good as any revolver will. with the 41 mag, you got less recoil than a 44 and a little flatter shooting cartridge, with handloads. Plus the 41 mag will put a deer down really nice.

I'd sure carry something bigger than a 22lr if I was planning on killing deer with it. I know you can kill a deer with a 22, Ive seen it done. More often than not though that is the wrong caliber for deer, wild dogs or yotes. I'd get at least a 357.
