I realize the gun is hindered with the scope if I'm looking to protect my family..at home.......I'm going to play with it from 200 - 300 yards....I may put a new upper bull barrel on it for varmints...I know this 16 inch barrel will hold its own. My buddies Bushmaster works well with a 4X12. and 16 inches.
