Taurus PT 24/7 pro
 

Do any of youguy'son here own a Taurus PT 24/7 pro? I am thinking of getting one in either9mm or .40 cal. I heard of some issues with the clips in them but I think they fixed that problem. This is going to be my first handgun purchase so I don't want to get burned if their junk. Sportsmans warehouse in Lafayette, INhas them for $369 and that is right in my budget range. Just looking for an honest opinion or another option if someone knows of any better semiauto's in that price range.

I would avoid it. Taurus is a junk company.

I own one and it is certainly NOT a piece of junk.I've put about 600rnds through itwith not one problem.I have a friend who only buy's the so called best of what ever gun you can imagine and really knows his stuff was very impressed with this piece.I on the other hand have a budget.No this is not a $1000 gun. But it is as good as any mid range out there.

Well I have done some extensive searching on this gun and it sounds like a pretty good gun. I read some stuff about the first gen .45 models having problems with the clip but apparently it's been fixed. The .40 and 9mm models have had no problems from what I can tell. I am pretty set on this gun but I just cant decide if I shouldget the 9 or the .40! Here is just one forum topic I found on this gun.

I've heard a fair amount of good things about Tarus nowadays and that post above is really the only one I can remember saying they are junk. That being said I've never owned or shot one. I really like the Ruger SR9's if you are looking for a 9mm. The Springfield XD's seem nice too.

Yeah I considered the XD9 but it's a little out of my price range. I actually checked one out today and didn't really care for how it felt in my hand either. The 24/7 felt like it was made for me when I first tried it out.

I'd go with the .40 or .45 a little more knockdown and really minimal recoil.

All depends on the shooter. I am not recoil sensitive (shoot a 44 Mag handgunfor deer hunting). However, there is a noticeable difference between a 9MM and a 40S&W or 45ACP. That being said, if this is going to be used for self defense, I would NOT go with a 9MM in the 24/7. I do NOT belive this is approved for +P ammo in 9MM, so I would want a 40 or 45ACP (stay away from 45GAP - higher $ ammo and harder to find). IMO, the recoil of the 40 has more of a snap, and the recoil of the 45ACP has more of a push.

I have always considered Taurus to be a "junk company" too, but I have handled a couple of PT 24/7's and several PT 111's and am impressed.

Apparently you havent shot any of the Taurus pistols or revolvers. And you probably dont realize that Taurus and S&W use the same frame work either. Think before you say something about a product. I own a Taurus and I have shot the PT 24/7Proand its a fine piece of workmanship. Smooth action low recoil and a a fun shooter.
