RE: S&W i-bolt vs REM 700
I would choose a Browning A-bolt/X-bolt or a TC Icon before either of your choices. If it HAS to be between the 2, the Remington 700 would be the pick. I really don't look for the S&W I-bolt to be made much longer. It should still be a good rifle though.

stlking bear not sure if you know but s&w own tompson center the icon and i bolt have the exact same barrells just a slightly different action it is to no effect though because i would still recomend the rem 700 because the icon is over priced and there is a recent recall on the i bolt

Yes,I'm well aware of when the company that owns S&W acquired TC. The differences in the actions is exactly what I'm talking about. Check out the sales #s or ask your local gunshop how many flyers we've gotten with S&W I-bolts on clearance. I don't think the I-bolt is going to make it especially since the same company owns both. The better, more popular, more widely known/familiar rifle is going to win out instead of them trying to continue to sell both.

RE: S&W i-bolt vs REM 700
Rem 700 probaly the most common bolt action rifle in the woods. Probaly has the most aftermarket parts and upgrades available for it as well and if you need to do any type of work on it id say 99.9% of all gunsmiths can work on a 700 with their eyes closed..
Only problem i have with mine is the trigger pull is a little heavy, but thats nothing $40 at the gunsmith cant fix. Other than that my 270 700SPS Stainless has been an awesome andgreat shootingrifle. |
